TIM MORGAN'S VISITWhat a successful meeting it was and those who weren't there missed a rare treat.
Tim is primarily a Wildfowler, who needs decoy ducks for shooting, so he makes his own. This is a serious hobby which seems to have taken over his life, he lives and breaths decoy ducks and talks about his interest with such an infectious enthusiasm.
Tim came from Beaulieu to our last meeting and brought with him between 50 and 100 ducks of various breeds, some of them collectors items and some unfinished.
He told us about shooting on the foreshore using his specially built punt, where he hides under camouflage, waiting patiently for the real ducks to be attracted by his decoys. Commercially available decoys just don't sit right in the water, Tim says, which is why he makes his own.
It all seems a lot of trouble, just to come home with a few ducks for the freezer, when they're readily available at the supermarket.
Seriously though we are deeply indebted to Tim, who has promised to come back to a "Ringwood Woodcarvers" (see our sister website under links) meeting in the near future, to help us carve duck head sticks.
